An application to extend a visa must be submitted no less than 60 days before it expires — or, where the visa was issued for under 30 days, 7 working days before.

What happens in practice
For a renewal of three months or less, the VFS checklist states 7 working days and does not mention the 60-day rule at all. The two texts disagree, and almost nobody has read both.
