Can you extend your visa twice in South Africa?
Most pages say a flat no. South Africa’s law is less sure. It allows a renewal. Three months or less. No line says one time only. No text forbids asking again. No one can promise a yes. We read the Act on 29 August 2026.
What does the law say?
The rule sits in the Immigration Act. Its name is section 11(1)(a). Its words: “may not exceed three months and upon application may be renewed by the Director-General for a further period which shall not exceed three months”. In plain words: your visa runs three months at most. You can ask for more time. The new time is three months at most. We read the Act on 29 August 2026.
Does the law say “only once”?
No. We looked for that line. It is not in the Act. The Act says “a further period”. One period, named one time. That reading points to one renewal. The reading is probably right. But a reading is not a written rule. No line counts your renewals.
Why do other pages sound so sure?

Is there another line in the Act?
Yes, one more. Its name is section 10(7). It gives the Director-General the power to extend. You must ask in the set way. The line names no number of times. It counts nothing. We read it on 29 August 2026.
So can you ask a second time?
