Visa run in South Africa: does it work?

What do people hope a visa run does?
A visa run is a short border trip. You cross into Lesotho, Eswatini or Namibia. You come back a day or two later. The hope: a fresh visa at the door. New days, no papers, no waiting. Many travel pages repeat this hope. Almost none shows a law line for it.
What does the law say?
We read the Immigration Act. The visa rule is section 11(1)(a). A visitor’s visa runs three months at most. You can ask for more time. That new time is three months at most. And about leaving and coming back? Nothing. No line gives new days at the border. No line forbids you from trying. The law says nothing, either way. We read it on 1 September 2026.
What do travellers report?
